March 2004 - Here's the good: great location, elegant and hip, intimate, nice bedding, LCD TV with lots of cable choices, Aveda skin care products, cool bathroom, great price (I paid $140, but there are plenty of ways to pay for extras). Here's the bad: double room is SMALL, and I'm a New Yorker! Bathroom door can't open all the way--only a few feet of space around double bed. Am I in Japan? NOT for 2 people, but they may have larger rooms. No closet (small wardrobe), no full length mirror, one small towel bar, no room to put luggage, incredibly thin walls (bring earplugs, I heard the person next door snoring and the other room had a wee hours conversation I heard word for word) and aloof and inattentive staff (at least they look good, but a simple hello would be nice - the valets were very friendly). Cool music CDs in room, but open them and you pay $25 each. Clock radio needs manual to decipher (again, looks are everything). BUT one of the few places in LA where you can actually walk to stores - Whole Foods down the street, Rodeo Drive a few blocks, many restaurants and easy commute to all the best places in western LA. There's an attractive bar and restaurant in the lobby and nice outdoor patio in front - great place to meet up with friends and have a drink. Valet parking was convenient, expensive ($15/day) but good for frequent ins and outs. I'd stay again, but upgrade to a larger room. And bring less luggage. |
